| The Bedford Hills Fire Department spread holiday cheer through village streets Saturday in the third-annual candy cane run.
Captain Robbie Bancroft donned the traditional red suit, added the white hair and beard, and hopped aboard Engine 199. Several "elves" dressed in turnout gear joined St. Nick.
Firefighters sounded the siren and pulled the air horn as they drove slowly through the streets. The truck stopped at intersections where children gathered for pictures, got a candy cane, and made their annual Christmas gift request.
"A computer?" asked Santa after one girl whispered in his ear. "Elves--make a note of that," he said to young firefighters Riley DeJong and Kyle Brown dressed in elf hats and bunker gear.
The convoy stopped at the Community House where several hundred residents had gathered for the annual holiday breakfast. Santa posed for more pictures with willing participants while some children ran screaming back to their parents, drawing the familiar, "Ho Ho Ho," from the big man.
