Just before 4:00PM on Monday December 18th, BHFD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on South Bedford Road. Assistant Chief Dennett was the first FD unit to arrive and notified Chief Lombardo that a passenger vehicle had struck a mini bus with extensive damage to both vehicles. Chief Lombardo declared an MCI (Multi Causality Incident) and requested a total of 9 ambulances be dispatched.

Car 2031 established Command, Car 2032 was the Staging Officer and Car 2033 was the Operations Officer. All 13 occupants of the bus — the driver, an attendant and 11 passengers — as well as the driver of the vehicle were taken to hospitals for treatment and evaluation.

BHFD Companies assisted with Triage, Traffic Control, Fluid Mitigation and to ensure the vehicles were secure.

South Bedford Road was closed between West Patent Road and Darlington Road for approximately four hours while the Town of Bedford Police Accident Investigation Team conducted and accident reconstruction.

While units operated at the MVA, Engine 198, Tower Ladder 57, Tanker 5, Utility 57 and Car 2030, with the mutual aid companies handled an inside investigation on Rome Ave.
