December 26, 2017

At approximately 2:30AM this date, while BHFD members were assembling at HQ to respond Mutual Aid to the Somers Fire District for a Structure Fire, personnel were alerted to a Structure Fire next door to BHFD HQ in a mixed commercial/residential building. The two occupants of the apartment self-evacuated and were unharmed by the fire. Deputy Chief Joseph Liburdi (DC-39) contacted 60 Control via radio and requested BHFD be dispatched for a 10-75 "Working Structure Fire" next to BHFD HQ. Captain Patierno (Car 2036) led interior operations. A short time later, Chief of Department Joseph Lombardo (Car 2031) arrived on the scene and assumed Command, while Asst. Chief Nickson (Car 2032) assumed Operations and Asst. Chief Dennett (Car 2033) assumed Attack. Crews extinguished a fire in the cleaners on the ground floor and a fire in the second floor apartment. The situation was brought under control in short order, and units remained on scene for overhaul and to assist the Westchester County Cause and Origin Team with the fire investigation. The Red Cross was contacted to render assistance to the displaced occupants of the apartment.
