By Chief of Department Jason Nickson
January 19, 2018

On January 8, 2018 Bedford Hills was dispatched to a residence on Wood Road for a residential alarm. Within minutes Second Assistant Chief Zachary Patierno (Car 2033) was responding, as crews were assembling, Car 2033 arrived on location and did a quick visual size up of the property. Due to multiple large structures on the property Car 2033 and the Bedford Police Officer, split up to check for a cause of the activated alarm.

With Engine 198 on the road, Car 2033 and a Bedford Police Officer preformed a 360° inspection of the one of the barn buildings and found smoke coming from a window on the 2/3 corner. Chief Patierno transmitted the 10-75 (Working Fire) bringing a full department response from BHFD and Mutual Aid companies to the assignment.

Engine 198 dropped a 5” supply line at the base of the driveway and laid in. Crews form Engine 198 and Tower Ladder 57 gained entry to the first floor and were able to extinguish the fire quickly. The Mt. Kisco Engine Company checked the the remainder of the first and second floor for any extension. With all fire knocked down and negative extension found Chief Patierno placed the incident under control.

First of all .... Thank God no injuries or loss of life because of outstanding training & foresight by our officers & members in knocking down a fire that could have escalated into a real burner. Training @ BHFD is the finest in the area plus BHFD has great mutual aid in response to what could have gone out of control.
The photos show what developed
The residents of our community can sleep well knowing BHFD Chief Patierno is on the call.
