On Thursday, February 8th, Bedford Hills Fire was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Interstate 684, about 1 mile north of Exit 4. While responding 60 Control updated units, that the State Police was on the scene reporting the driver trapped in a tractor-trailer approximately 12 feet off of the ground.

Engine 199 was first arriving and found a tractor-trailer in the median which had rolled over in a "jackknife" position, which had the cab approximately 20 feet off the ground. Due to the position of the cab, the driver was unable to get out and down to ground level. Engine 199's crew started to stabilize the vehicle, when Rescue 10 arrived the crews used additional Paratech struts to stabilize the cab.

A member from 199's crew then utilized a ground ladder to reach the driver and bring him to the ground to be evaluated by EMS. Due to the accident, the truck's saddle tank was also ruptured. Mini Attack 9 and Utility 6 brought additional speedy dry and absorbent pads to protect any potential runoff, and the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services Hazardous Materials Team was called to the scene to pump off additional fuel from the truck.

Due to the position of the truck and no life, or environmental hazard, it was determined that the leak would be mitigated once the vehicle was turned over. The scene was then turned over to NYSP so the roadway could re-open for the rush hour commute.
