On Friday November 27th, BHFD was dispatched to I-684 at the Rest Area for a Tractor Trailer with a ruptured diesel tank. The damage to the tank was caused by a ladder that had fallen off a vehicle traveling on the highway.

BHFD companies arrived to find a large hole in the saddle tank with approximately 75 gallons of fuel already on the ground with the tank still leaking. Crews contained the spill and slowed the leak using the Plug n' Dike kit.

C-2031, requested all the additional speedy dry in stock at BHFD along with additional booms and pads. New York DEC and the Westchester County Hazardous Materials Response Team were requested. Once the HAZMAT team arrived, they were able to completely stop the leak with their additional materials.

BHFD remained on scene until the scene could be turned over to the haz mat cleanup contractor.

The Bedford Village Fire Department was placed on stand by in their own Headquarters for the duration of the incident, due to the resources tied up on scene and the limited access to the rest of the district while companies operated.
