Working Fire in the First Due

On the afternoon of Saturday November 12th BHFD was dispatched reported structure fire. Upon arrival of Car 2032 (Chief Nickson) the 10-75 (Working Fire) was transmitted for a working residential structure fire. Chief Nickson established "Friars Close Command", Car 2033 (Chief Dennett- Attack) arrived on scene as well. The residents were outside on the front lawn and Bedford Police confirmed that there was no one else in the residence.

Residence Dimentions: 1 1/2 Story, Split Level Ranch. 40 X 30 Feet. Fire was located in the Kitchen on the 3/4 corner of the residence.

Engine 199 arrived on scene and secured its own water source, while the crew placed a 1 3/4 handline in operation and entered the structure for the initial fire attack. Engine 198 and Katonah Ladder 39 arrived shortly after, both crews preformed assisted in first due truck and second due engine responsibilities. Primary and Secondary searches were completed and proved negative of the fire building. Rescue 10 and Utility 6 were utilized for scene support operations. The Mount Kisco Mutual Aid Companies (Engine 104 and Utility 13 - FAS Team) stood fast on the "A" side of the fire building. The fire was contained to the room of origin by the handline placed into operation by Engine 199.

NYSEG was notified for residential power service disconnect. The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team - Zone #5 was notified and responded to verify the cause of the fire.

The Town of Bedford Building Department and Water Department were notified. The Code Enforcement responded and assessed the damage to the residence.

Friar's Close Command was terminated and all Bedford Hills Units were in service by 19:00.
