While Chief of Department - Jason Nickson assumed his new role as Chief of Department on New Year’s Eve at Midnight, the “Ceremonial” transition took place last evening during the January Monthly Meeting of the Department. Outgoing Chief of Department - Joseph Lombardo presented incoming Chief of Department - Jason Nickson with the Chief of Department badge. This particular badge has been worn by the Chief of Department for the last 25 plus years.

Chief Nickson is the 44th Chief in the history of the Bedford Hills Fire Department, which was established in 1903. Chief Nickson joined the Bedford Hills Fire Department as a Junior Corp. member in 2003 and has held every firematic position (Probationary Firefighter, Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, 2nd Assistant Chief and 1st. Assistant Chief) on his climb up the ladder to his current post as Chief of Department. It should also be noted that Chief Nickson is the first Chief of Department that started his career as a Junior Corp. Member. The Junior Corp. (Now Called Firefighter Candidate Program) was established in October 2001.

Chief Nickson follows in the footsteps of his father William Nickson, our current Department President who was the 35th Chief of Department from 1993 to 1995.

Congratulations to our newest Chief of Department - Jason Nickson!!!
