Shortly before noon on Friday October 2nd, a highway box was transmitted for a reported truck fire on Interstate 684. Assistant Chief Hollis from MKFD was in the area and reported that the contents of a tri-axel dump truck were on fire in the bed of the truck.

Upon the arrival of Car 2031, Tanker 5 and Engine 199 the contents of the truck were dumped onto the highway by the trucks operator to ensure no extension to the dump truck itself.

The crew of Tanker 5 stretched a 1 ¾” handline, and begun to pull apart the debris pile. Engine 199’s crew assisted Tanker 5, while also preparing for a foam operation should it have been needed. Rescue 10’s crew set up and assisted with traffic control and scene safety.

Companies operated for approximately one hour before turning the scene over to NYSP and NYSDOT.
