By Chief of Department Alexander Dennett Sr.
February 15, 2021
Around 14:20 hours on Monday February 15th, the Bedford Hills Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Beechwood Road for a reported vehicle fire. While responding, 60 Control notified of additional calls, reporting a fully involved vehicle fire. Car 2031 (Dennett) arrived on scene, confirmed same and while performing a scene size up, located the vehicle occupant close by with superficial burns. Engine 199 rapidly deployed 150' of 1-3/4" from their front bumper to extinguish the blaze as Tanker 5 supplied an additional 2,750 gallons of water. Due to a ruptured fuel tank and the need for additional water to support foam operations, Engine 198's crew hand stretched 250' of 3" hose to secure positive water at a nearby hydrant. Crews utilized foam for approximately 20 minutes, blanketing the area to mitigate the flammable vapors from the fuel tank. The incident was placed under control and after a lengthily overhaul, crews returned to service at 16:40 hours.
