BHFD Hosts Joint Water Rescue Drill

On Monday Night August 11th, BHFD Members along side Katonah Fire Department Members and Yorktown Heights Fire Department Water Rescue Team took to the Waters of the Bedford Hills Pool for Water Rescue Training.
Members of all agencies first took part in a Hands on Lecture taught by the Bedford Hills Pool Staff regarding Town of Bedford Pool policies in an event a Water Rescue Incident was to occur at any of the 3 Town of Bedford Pool Complexes. Pool Staff went over different Rescue Maneuvers using Rescue tubes and Backboards to remove an injured party from a body of water.
The second part of the Drill was lead by Yorktown Heights Assistant Chief Lauria who went over different techniques using shore based Rope Bag throws to rescue a party and what should be done by 1st Arriving Companies in the event a Surface Water Rescue turns into a Dive Rescue operation. The night was ended by Yorktown Heights Members giving a tour of Rescue 55 and the many services that the Yorktown Heights Water Rescue Team offers.
The Members of BHFD and KFD would like to give Special Thanks to the Bedford Recreation & Parks Department for allowing this Training to occur and the use of the Bedford Hills Pool for the Night and to the Bedford Hills Pool Staff for the very Informative Information they provided to everyone in attendance and keeping everyone activiely engaged. Lastly, we'd like to Thank Assistant Chief Lauria and the Yorktown Heights Water Rescue Team for coming over to the Hills for a Great Night of Training.
