SOMERS - A three-alarm fire at the Somerstown Shopping Center took 90 minutes for firefighters to bring under control overnight.
No one was injured in the blaze at Somerfields, a restaurant above Jim Smith Karate, said Bob Totten, Somers fire chief.
The fire was reported at 325 Route 100 around 1:30 a.m. It started in the kitchen exhaust vent fan over the restaurant's stove, then spread to the roof, Totten said.
The accidental fire was contained to the restaurant, with some water damage to the martial arts studio downstairs.
"It's going to be a little while before (Somerfields) can reopen," Totten said. "They have some work to do; the damage is a little bit extensive."
Somers firefighters were assisted by crews from Bedford Hills, Croton Falls, Goldens Bridge, Mahopac and Yorktown.
