Department Responds To Shoprite For A Technical Rescue
By 1st Assistant Chief Brian McGill
September 27, 2008
On Saturday September 27 at 936 am members of the Bedford Hills Fire Department were dispatched to Shoprite on Bedford rd for a reported technical rescue. Car 2032 (McGill) was responding almost immediately followed by Rescue 10 and Tower Ladder 57. Once on location car 2032 was able to gather any important information from Bedford Police Officer, and get a quick size up of the scene. Chief McGill was able to determine that a worker had been stocking shelves while working off of a fork lift. In the process of trying to get back down his hand had gotten caught in between a moving part and a stationary part of the machine. Crews from Rescue 10 led by Captain Palmesi and Tower Ladder 57 led by Lieutenant Bancroft worked diligently to free the workers hand without harming him any further. Crews utilized hydraulic tools and cribbing from both rigs to lift the forks up and away from the victims pinned hand. Once the victim was disentangled he was accessed and transported to NWHC by members of KBHVAC with non life threatening injuries. Members we released from the scene by command at 1025 and were returned to service
