BEDFORD HILLS FD HOLDS ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE FOR THE COMMUNITY
By Chief of Department Brian McGill
October 11, 2009
As fire Prevention week came to a close The Bedford Hills Fire Department invited all local residents to its annual Open House. Open house was held on October 11th from 12:30 to 4:30pm and included many things for the public to check out as well as learn from. Fire department members went above and beyond this year, taking time out of their busy schedules to construct a living room simulator in the parking lot across the street from the Fire House. The day started with some fire truck rides around town as well as equipment demonstrations inside the Fire House. During the course of the day members were able to answer any questions that the public might have about the operation of the Fire Department. As the day came to a close members gathered all visitors on the apron of the Fire House for the final demonstration. Members lit a small piece of the constructed living room on fire with a flare and timed how long it would take for the entire room to become involved in fire. As well as seeing how fast normal objects inside a house will catch fire, everyone that day was able to view how firefighters work as a team to extinguish a fire.
The Bedford Hills Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank all the residents of the Bedford Hills Fire District and surrounding districts for their continued support throughout the year.
