Two Incidents Start Off The Month Of May
By Chief of Department Brian McGill
May 3, 2010
On Sunday May 1 at 17:30 Bedford Hills was dispatched to mile marker 15.1 North Bound on Interstate 684 for a reported motor vehicle accident. Car 2031 was responding shortly after dispatch as well as Rescue 10, Engine 198 and Mini Attack 9. Chief McGill was the first Fire unit to arrive and found a suv rolled over onto its side in the center median. After performing a quick size up it was found that the single occupant of the car had exited the car on his own and was being attended to by a Westchester Paramedic. The crew from Rescue 10 and Engine 198 assisted EMS, checked the vehicle for any additional victims and secured the battery compartment. Fire Department units were released after the tow truck had removed the car from the interstate.
Later on shortly after 20:00 hours Bedford Hills FD was requested at a residence on Bedford Ave for a reported glow on the residence. Bedford Police arrived and notified Fire Department units that there was a possible oil burner problem. Units on scene found a soot covered ceiling outside the oil burner room, but was later determined that it was from a previous incident. During the investigation it was noted that there was an electrical problem in the residence, causing only certain areas and certain appliances to work. Command notified NYSEG to respond and when they arrived the scene was turned over to them and all Bedford Hills apparatus was returned to service.
