First Due MVA with Heavy Entrapement on Interstate 684
By Deputy Chief Jason L. Nickson
June 10, 2024
At 15:55 on Monday, June 10, 2024 - the assignment was dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with two parties trapped on Interstate 684 Northbound at milepost 13.1.
Upon the arrival of Cars 2031 (Dennett) and Car 2033 (McGill), a single vehicle was located approximately sixty feet off the roadway into a tree in the heavily wooded median. With Rescue 10 being out of maintenance service, Car 2033 (McGill) requested the Katonah Fire Department Rescue 17 and Engine 115 to assist on the southbound side of the incident. Multiple hydraulic and eDraulic extrication tools were placed into service to extricate the female victim from the vehicle.
Due to the severity of the damage and the prolonged extrication time a medivac helicopter was requested, however, was canceled due to the extended flight time. The extrication was complete in approximately twenty-five minutes and the patient was transferred to an awaiting ambulance for transport.
Bedford Hills companies operated for two hours until being released by Command.
