On Monday August 24th,2015, the Bedford Hills Fire Department hosted a Mutual Aid Water Supply Drill. Utilizing three fill sites and six tankers doing shuttles, we were able to sustain 1000 GPM of water flow with little to no interruption, while flowing two portable master streams, a deck gun and multiple handlines. In 2006, a Bedford Hills Firefighter was struck by a vehicle in the crosswalk while crossing the street from the parking lot to HQ during an alarm. Fortunately his injuries were minor, although they could have been fatal based upon the impact. Since that date, there have been many near misses with firefighters and pedestrians utilizing the crosswalk to cross the street in front of BHFD.
On Monday August 3rd Bedford Hills FD FAS Team was dispatched mutual aid to Mt. Kisco to assist with a Structure Fire. Mt. Kisco FD was able to make a quick knock down and contain the fire with minimal damage to the living space within the house. On a very hot and very humid Sunday morning, BHFD members participated in a little extra hands on extrication training. The Drill was run by Captain Jon Spano of the Rescue Company, and assisted by Ex-Captain Carmen Curro and FF Mark Kane of the Training Division.
Members refreshed themselves with Vehicle Stabilization, Res-Q-Jack, Victim Removal and Extrication Techniques.
