First Due Commercial 10-75

By 2nd Assistant Chief Jason Nickson
May 17, 2014

Shortly after 4:00pm this afternoon BHFD was dispatched for a full assingment, next to 57 Plainfield Ave for a report of smoke from a structure. Car 2033, Assistant Cheif Nickson was the first to arrive and notified 60 Control of smoke showing and requesting a re-tone of Bedford Hills.

Chief Nickson completed a 360° of the 50 X 50 two story commercial auto body shop and notified Chief of Department Bueti - Car 2031 who arrived on scene to transmit the 10-75 (Working Structure Assignment) for active fire in the street level bays of the auto body shop.

Engine Company 199 arrived, made its hydrant, and laid a 5" supply line from a near by hydrant. The members stretched the 300' - 1 3/4" smooth bore hand line to the front of the structure with the crew of Tower Ladder 57 forced entry to the overhead doors. Due to overhead utilities the aerial on Tower Ladder 57 was unable to make the structure, Katonah Fire Department Ladder was special called to the scene and took the front of the building for roof operations.

Once companies made entry it was determined the main body of fire was a fully involved vehicle inside of the garage bays. Additional engine companies stretched additional handline and the Truck Companies assisted in horizontal and vertical ventilation.

All primary and secondary searches of the structure were negative and Chief Bueti placed the fire under control.

All Bedford Hills companies were back in service at 18:30 hours.
