BEDFORD - Two drivers were injured in a head-on crash Sunday night when one of them drunkenly drove the wrong way on Interstate 684, police said.

A 42-year-old Yonkers man was driving south on I-684 when a 30-year-old Carmel man, driving north in the southbound lanes, smashed into his car at 11:32 p.m., state police Sgt. Leon Williams said.

The crash occurred near Exit 4 after the Carmel man apparently drove north on the southbound exit ramp into the southbound lanes, police said.

Both men are at Westchester Medical Center. The Yonkers man was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, while the Carmel man is in critical condition, police said.

Police have not yet identified the Carmel man as the investigation continues. Williams said the man faces a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated, and that he was found with marijuana.
